Re: Best Films of 2014 Lists Thread
I saw Birdman today. Interesting movie, probably my favorite Inarritu. I liked the first hour better than the second, though I really liked the commentary on how you market yourself in a modern world. In terms of mainstream movies I think Edge of Tomorrow is easily the best. Besides having the most ...

The song that speaks to me personally the most has to be It's Alright Ma by Bob Dylan. In the final episode of the Sopranos, Anthony Junior is playing this song in the car with this girlfriend and he makes the observation "It was written in the sixties, but it's about today!" I feel the sa...

Benji and Gender Roles
I was listening to Benji for probably the 30th time on Christmas, but the first time when my mother was in the car. And this somehow made me pay attention to the fact that this album has both a love song for his mother and one for his father. It also made me notice the difference between the songs a...

Can we really predict this? Kanye, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar are certainly the people who will get the most critical love if they release an album on the level of their previous album, but if they release a lackluster album they'll be nitpicked the hell out of. I wouldn't assume Sleater-Kinney ...

I would call shenanigans though on his suggestion that removing one's personal taste is either possible or desirable. Anyone who claims to do so is just replacing their personal taste for their personal values. You can say, yes, the musical values of the voters favor rock from 1965-1980. But just ad...
