If I made my list today, Live At The Regal would be my #427.
I ranked Frank's Wild Years and Endless Summer pretty high but I'm most surprised Unhalfbricking didn't get any love.

It's surprising to me that 77 is so far down on the AM list too. But I suppose in almost any other year a #346 ranking would put you in the top 15 for that year. Anything except the stretch from 1968-1971.

Netjade always pointed people toward great music that wasn't getting attention otherwise. Maybe had a bit of a bad attitude about popular records getting too much attention, but was never personal about it.

At one point we were thinking of taking the top finishers in the decade polls and sticking them into an elimination bracket. We can still do that, and we can do it simultaneously with a 2010s poll.

I prefer option B. But maybe there could be a difference between 20s and 40s films. Every 4 years in twenties, every 3 years in 30s and every 2 years in 40s, or something. Preferably staggered like this, because my hunch is that people have seen more films from the 40 than from the 20s. Variety is ...

Sondre Lerche - Please is also fantastic. It reminds me of early Strokes only with wilder, less constrained melodies and a few Beatles-esque touches.

Rolling Stone seems set out to perpetually convince themselves that the same rock bands that made their bread and butter back when they were relevant are still the bands producing the best material today. So any time one of them releases an album that is even good, five stars.

Another advantage the 65-75 era had is that the distribution stream was thinner. Record companies had more control over what everybody was listening to, so it was easier for a 'Phenomenon' to happen. Whereas now you can't target everybody so record companies tailor their artists for specific demogra...

I do think there was the highest concentration of great rock music coming out in that era, but I don't think the difference is as big as the difference in representation on lists. That is a good point that with our sample size, taking just the average exaggerates effects of standard error. My biggest surprise in these trends is the trajectory of Neil Young's late 70s output. It may be a symptom of a Young just having so many good albums that critics don't want to include too many by the same artist so all the NY love goes to After The Gold Rush and Harvest.
