I do prefer MBV to Slowdive, because it was MBV who truly subverted the cliches of the genre shoegaze, and made it into what it is today, but Slowdive also has some really great music, albeit slightly more conventional than MBV. I think that this is normal. It happens me too, and a lot of critics as well. It's hard to make an album that is flat out bad if you're at least on the right path, but it's hard to make an album that is downright great as well, which is what makes a great album great.

The Magnetic Fields - The Charm of the Highway Strip vs. Jim O'Rourke - Eureka

TCOTHS is an all time favorite. Actually, in contrast to some of the other comments, I really love the voice. Jim O' Rourke is just about average, maybe slightly above it.

St. Vincent - Marry Me vs. Roxy Music - Manifesto
