Re: Songs and Albums of 2000 Poll
Speaking of 2000 songs, StevieFan13 have you heard Stevie's keyboard solo on Don Henley's song Nobody Else in the World? He sounds like a man possessed.

Re: UpVenue - The 35 Funniest Songs of All Time
As far as alcohol-related songs go, One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer and I Drink Alone are pretty hilarious. Plus, any comedy music list has to feature some 10cc (like I'm Not in Love or The Second Sitting of the Last Supper).

Anyways, it will be interesting to see how many Lemonade songs make the list. A lot have placed already...Nice to see Thrice start the countdown. Yeah, I saw that. Looks like she'll end up with 5 or 6, which is really impressive. It's not really my type of music, but I admire the ambition and varie...

Nice to see Heathens crack the top 100. In retrospect, I probably should've placed The Dear Hunter's Gloria in my top spot. I can't get the plaintive, catchy chorus out of my head.

I'm 30, so I went to a ton of weddings last year, and I think it's safe to say that Single Ladies is THE official bouquet tossing song now.

Re: Which year seems to be the greatest year of music?
I might go with 1975 because of Wish You Were Here, Physical Graffiti, Captain Fantastic, Fleetwood Mac, A Night at the Opera, 10cc's The Original Soundtrack, Camel's The Snow Goose, Supertramp's Crisis? What Crisis?, One of These Nights, and ELO's Face the Music. All the odd years in the 70s are pr...

Since I spent most of the year listening to the AM top 6000 and only listened to a handful of 2016 albums, I'll only submit a song list, but my favorite albums were Blackstar, A Moon Shaped Pool, The Dear Hunter's Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional (nice to see that someone else on here app...

Is the deadline to submit based on a certain time zone? I live in the western US, so the day doesn't end for another 13 hours, and I was going to listen to more songs during my commute.

I take it AM has never included multiple versions of the same song by the same artist, but I think this should count as two separate entries because critics are clearly citing different versions of the song.

Re: Individual Artist Poll: Leonard Cohen Results
I definitely need to check out more Leonard Cohen. Bizarrely, I've only listened to Dear Heather and The Future, but the latter is a great album. One of my all-time favorite lyrics comes from the title track: "Take the only tree that's left / Stuff it up the hole in your culture."

Re: twenty one pilots
It's interesting that they're classified as rock as I'm pretty sure guitars are largely absent in their work, but I guess they're as close rock as mainstream pop is going to get. Not sure I agree with you about how dated their songs will sound or the comparison to Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. I do f...

Hey there, I'm wondering if anyone else here likes this band. I'm surprised none of their songs have made AM yet. Last year, they had two songs in the top 5 on the Hot 100, something only the Beatles and Elvis have done. Of course, popularity doesn't necessarily mean they're a good band, but I think...

Re: List of songs to be added to AM 2017
Wow, some post-Roger Waters Pink Floyd and The Turn of a Friendly Card by The Alan Parsons Project. Complaining that the critics thought my favorite bands were uncool was kinda my thing. What am I gonna do now? By the way, ELO's Sweet Talkin' Woman is from 1977, not 1978. The album Out of the Blue w...

Re: 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees (For 2017 Induction Ceremony)
ELO is one of my favorite bands, so it's nice to see Jeff Lynne garnering some critical acclaim lately. I also enjoy a lot of Yes (mostly Close to the Edge) and Journey, so it's nice to see them getting in too. It seems like so many 70s pop and prog bands were trashed by contemporary critics, only f...

Are these songs going to be added to the top 6000, 10000, or something else entirely? The Eagles' Doolin Dalton and Pink Floyd's Breathe and Mother, hell yes! All three would make my top 200, and Mother would probably make my top 20. Shocked that a great but short song like The Show Must Go On made ...

I'm kinda curious to know the megacritic score for some of the higher rated albums on the end of year lists (Rihanna, The 1975, and Drake for example). Looking forward to this year's megacritic kick off. Thanks Otis for all the effort. Love this site. Took over four years for your first post! :o I ...

Re: Do you agree that geniuses (may be in music, other arts or science) are almost always arrogant and, in less quantity
As for Pink Floyd, Roger Waters comes across as an egotistical dick. The other band members seems pretty affable, but then again, Roger has the most interesting things to say. As for me, I consider myself a pretty good musician and songwriter. I'm not arrogant, but I do have obsessive compulsive per...

Thanks for providing this list. I'll finally finished listening to all of the 2010-2015 songs on the top 6000, so I'll now I'll start diving into this list. It's nice to know I'm not the only one bewildered by "poptimism." (It also annoys me that music critics ignore artists over 40 unless...

I've browsed the thegreatestbooks.org before, but it's compiled from 107 lists, which is paltry compared to AM and They Shoot Pictures. Are those really all the book lists? Considering the printing press predates recorded music and movies by centuries, it's a little disappointing. Perhaps books just...

Thanks for the recommendations. Speaking of modern prog, does anyone have recommendations along the lines of The Mars Volta's De-Loused in the Comatormium (which is deservingly highly ranked on AM)? That album is an excellent of 21st century prog that is clearly pushing the genre in new directions. ...

Thanks for the thoughtful responses. To give some context, I'm 30, so my love of 70s music isn't based on my age. When I was in high school in the early 2000s, most contemporary music didn't grab my interest, but once I discovered Pink Floyd (far and away my favorite band) and other progressive and ...

Struggling to Get Into 2010s Pop
As a fan of mostly 60s and 70s music, I've been listening to the most acclaimed songs of the 2010s in an attempt to broaden my horizons, and while I've enjoyed many of the songs, it's difficult for me to get into a lot of the pop, R&B, and hip hop songs, which comprise most of the list. Honestly...
