This is must be a very recent one as I was only checking it out a few weeks ago when it was still a 4.0 star rated album:

Fleetwood Mac - Then Play On = upgraded to 4.5 stars

Re: Rating changes (Allmusic, Metacritic, etc.)

Looks like AMG have been upgrading the ratings of some of the older pop/R&B acts recently. I haven't noticed any others that AM has listed in the top 3000 apart from the following two albums..:

Janet Jackson - Control = upgraded to 5.0 stars
R. Kelly - 12 Play = upgraded to 5.0 stars

Re: Deafheaven - Sunbather

Not so sure. Perhaps it's just me but a lot of reviews tend to purposely play up the focus on the black-metal tag in combo with (if anything) the shoegaze elements. The mentions to post-rock often feel secondary by comparison. Saying that, I guess it is this dynamic combination of all three which ge...

Re: Deafheaven - Sunbather

T'is a solid album to be sure, though the level of breakthrough appeal it's attained is very surprising. When it comes to metal this year, both Inter Arma's Sky Burial and Altar of Plagues' Teethed Glory and Injury are albums just as impressive, if not moreso.

Agreed on the early Pavement vibe. Kinda hits a ground somewhere between them and maybe the Minutemen. Those that don't like bands digging up old sounds probably should avoid it but if you love American alternative rock from mid-late 80s / early 90s, it's definitely worth checking out. Yeah, the 'What's Your Rupture?' label re-release arrived on those dates. The original date was 18th August 2012, through their own label, as noted on their website here.

Don't worry, Harold filled me in as to why the album included needs to be included here.

Yeah, it's been settled on 87 for quite some time now. Considering it's been out for a nearly month I don't think there will be any more reviews that'll budge it from that score. It's very respectable result, putting it on par with mbv.
