Re: Albums of 2013

Another week begins with Kevin Shields saying that will release the new My Bloody Valentine in two or three days after performing a new song live. Come on MBV. If that's true give us an album cover or tracklist like other artists would at this stage. That Foxygen album is close to perfect. I wasn't...

Re: 2012 AMF EOY Album Poll - Results

Not so surprised by the 1-2 result but to see Beach House so high required a second-take. They've been through quite a backlash in some of the other music forums. Perhaps it's just been a vocal minority...

Re: 2012 AMF EOY Album Poll

Thanks again Jackson. Because of that extension I was able to get through almost everything I had listed. The only really regrettable loss was the Wadada Leo Smith's Ten Freedom Summers , which I haven't been able to find without possibly resorting to piracy. No apologies if people find the list too...

Re: 2012 AMF EOY Album Poll

Cheers Jackson. I've been trying to cram in all the records on my 'must-hear' list that I'm yet to catch up on for tomorrow but I keep on finding more to add to it! Considering that last year we had until the end of January to complete our lists, it would be really handy to at least get another few ...

Re: EOY 2012 -Allmusic (U.S.)

Nice catch Harold. When they didn't post it last Friday, I wondered which moment they would wait to delay it for. While the inclusion of No.10 may be questionable (to be fair I haven't heard it or plan to hear it) all the other albums fall in with expectations. After receiving its top-of-the-poll po...

Didn't mind Quarantine at all and listened to it a lot when it was initially released but I can understand your sentiment. It's quite the Marmite record considering the mixed rep it's received amongst other friends. And yeah, as much as I like it R.I.P. would probably place higher in my list too. ;)

Re: Rank the Songs: Radiohead's OK Computer

Poor 'Electioneering', these song-by-song ranking threads are always predictably harsh to you. If anything, let it be known that there are a small, staunch minority of us out there who will be forever grateful for the way you grab hold mid-album and rowdily shake things up to keep it lively...

Depending on how many people participate, that could turn into a really interesting project. Andy Stott's Luxury Problems seems to be very good. I need to listen to it more often and I certainly will. Yeah, leapt to hear this one after reading all the shout-outs about his previous EPs. Between Actre...

As usual, a track-list and/or album art please or I ain't buying it yet. As much as I'd love to believe it, it's gotten to the stage where the paranoid, old man in me feels that Kevin Shields only totes this line out in every interview for a laugh.

Re: EOY 2012: The Fly (UK) albums

Ahh, there had to be someone rushing ahead of the pack to get their EOY out with much more than a month to go.

Has anyone here placed Tramp in their top ten so far? Reviews for it at the time were quite good (though not astounding) but I haven't heard many people talk it up since its release.

Overall, I think the general consensus is spot on - it's very good, even if doesn't quite claim his 'best album yet' crown from his previous album. I expect it'll end up hovering around the low end of my EOY top 10, whereas Cosmogramma landed into a top 3 spot back in 2010. Shamed to say that I have...

Re: Albums of 2012

Yeah, The Seer is definitely turning into one of the colossal statements of the year, though it's also the type of album that I know I'm going to find trouble often returning to often enough for it to become a personal favourite. However, quite a few people I've talked to about it feel differently a...

Though in contrast, if you took Radiohead out it's even more depressing how few UK-based acts are within the top 50. We really need to start upping our game this decade. Here's the link to the People's List in case anyone is interested. It comes complete with a breakdown analysis, which is always fu...

Firmly in the, "I'll believe it when I see it" camp regarding the new album. Comments about an upcoming release have been circling around for years now. "Good for You" is a little gem of a track though.

Guardian exclusive streaming right? :D

Listening to this too and kinda agree with the verdict so far. It's an interesting sound but it lacks a certain sense of dynamism to truly flesh it out. Ah well, they're also streaming 'Heartbreaker' by the Walkmen.

Re: What music review sites do you actually read?

Another tick for Treblezine too. Well up until recently anyway. It use to be a more open-minded pitchfork, ya know without too much of the snobbish attitude but recently it's feels like it has started taking a turn for the worse. As for the UK sites, I regularly check in on DiS though I'm not a memb...

That's right - it's a "master from original 1/2" inch analogue tapes" The EP's compilation has peaked my interest more than the remasters. 'Sugar' was always one of my favourite non-album tracks of theirs and it always deserved more of a wider release than the back-a*s of some odd mag...

What is your favorite Mouse on Mars album? I didn't care much for Parastrophics, but I have a feeling that's not the best introduction to the group, as I've heard good things about their 90s output. A shame to hear. Anything about it in particular you didn't enjoy? As for where to start with Mouse ...

Just heard Burial's new Kindred EP for the first time and I was quite impressed. Looking forward to more listens. Kindred has been perhaps my favourite release of the year so far. Though Parastrophics by Mouse on Mars hit the shelves today and I could see that leapfrogging it after another listen o...
