Re: Official thread about all non-english language music

I wish we had better ways to learn about non-English music in the US, but if it's not distributed in the US it's probably not on Spotify and the only place I can reasonably be recommended them is here.

I like this album. Previously the only Yeasayer I heard was Amen & Goodbye which I believe I ranked in the 30s range on my 2016 EOY list. And I Am Chemistry was one my my songs of the year. I like the bouncy flourishy indie sound of Yeasayer. At times sounding like if Vampire Weekend or Wolf Par...

I wish venues would make it easier to find the stage schedules. I think they intentionally make it hard because the earlier you arrive relative to the performance, the more they expect you to spend and I bet they have exact statistics for that. But it's obnoxious if it's a standing room event and st...

Interesting you use 808s as your defense and not MBDTF. By the time 808s came out everyone was already doing that, mostly better. At least MBDTF legitimately used a kind of production perfectionism nobody else did. And paved the way for the whole vaginal reupholstery industry.

Keeping it melodic isn't the problem, it's the excessive melodrama, disingenuous sentimentality and overt emotional manipulation. Is that how you feel about half the people on this board, that they're just reacting to critical trends and don't really enjoy what they're listening to, only caring abou...

A Place To Bury Strangers - Pinned

Earlier albums of theirs are the kind of sludgy noise rock you go to a concert and expect to have hearing issues the next day. In Pinned they added some depth and oddity to the sound and veer more toward This Heat territory. Very good album.

My take on the legend of the 60s is it’s the decade where music producers learned how to monetize teenage rebelliousness. And that’s been the model mainstream rock has aspired to ever since. But the 60s did it first, when the whole culture of rebellion was new and shiny and not at all cynical. It wa...

Of course there's also people who used a lot of drugs at one point in their life and then stopped, like Dylan after his motorcycle accident.

Why no Neil Young on the list? Also on the list of people who did drugs and survived just long enough to quit.
