It’s hard to put a finger on. Their tone of alienation just really strikes a chord. They’re catchy without being corny. They ‘soft sell’ themselves musically. The atmospheric backgrounds don’t beg for your attention like most hooky pop rock, you just kind of sink in.

It’s a covers album that marries the southern blues with dream pop and creates deeply emotional performances.

Come to think of it, the styles that dominate the top of my list are styles I discovered around the late college years. That is, classic rock from late 60s/early 70s and 00s indie rock.

Aren’t the accusations against the other artists you mentioned more along the line of consensual sex with teenage fans?

It’s legally statutory rape depending on country and not morally acceptable but I would never place them in the same category as the allegations against MJ.
