Re: Noel Gallagher quote on lyrics
I agree melody is overall more important, but you can’t tell me if you took The Boxer and replaced the lyrics with love song lyrics, you would hear the melody the same way. Usually my point of comparison is when, say, the drummer or the bassist in a band gets a song on the album, and the lyrics and...

I forgot about The Wire. (Not that it's a final word, definitive list anyway.) I actually don't watch Game of Thrones**, and was tempted to mix in a list of Greatest Shows Ever to cover personal blind spots. One of the problems with that (besides 60 Minutes) is that theme songs have typically been d...

If someone does TV theme songs, here are 200ish to comb through. The lists in the companion thread are a guide. I don't know. A lot of them contain established classics that the compiler just doesn't seem to like and there is also a lot of "To hell with classic rock" attitude going on. Many of these songs are well-made, well-played and seem to be what ...

Maybe we should have a rule for this poll, disqualifying any songs in AM top 500 and artists in AM top 200. This might solve the popular artist sweeping problem. Stevie Wonder's I Just Called to Say I Love You and Ebony and Ivory are often in lists of worst songs, so I think artists with high accla...

Sometimes I don't think of the '90s really starting until 1991 (for the EIGHTIES, 1981 or 82). I agree with spiritualized's assessment, but regardless, Violator came out all of 3 months into the '90s, so it's not like it ruined anyone's idea of the '90s at the time (or now, evidently).
