Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2020 edition)

Maybe the first best-of list I ever saw was Entertainment Weekly's top 100 CDs (1993), which often used compilations. I know it's not purist, but there are also more than a few record buyers out there that just want, say, Bob Marley's Legend, or a compilation for Chuck Berry or whoever else instead ...

Interesting Christgau remark for assigning points to a 50 album list: Let me add that I assume you’re not so foolish as to go 50 [points] down to 1; 100 down to 51 would make much more sense, because we obviously don’t like our favorite 50 times as much as the one that squeaked in last though we ma...

Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2020 edition)

God, this looks like it was put together by aliens compared to the usual Rolling Stone all-time lists. It reminds me of when I find a negative vintage review of a classic album -- I usually complain that critics don't think for themselves enough, then if I see a departure, I complain about that, too...

I've personally been wanting a poll series on the AM Top Artists that progressed past the top 10 names. There are some pretty "obvious" big names in the top 11-20 that I don't think we've done a poll for before.
