Re: Site Update

+1 on the thanks, I don't contribute to the forum as regularly as I once did but I use the site religiously – ever since I was a mid-2000s teen (29 now). It's an essential hub for falling down wormholes, updating horizons, as well as simply idling hours away getting stuck into great music. Can't wai...

A seriously strong top 10, hard to argue with any of those. QOTSA too low but that's about the only drawback.

#17-22 is a fine run too.

Yeah, contesting Twenty One Pilots as a critically big deal or Blurryface as an EOD success (neither of which are quantifiably true) but saying My Chemical Romance or Shakira are undeserving/have had little impact is the dictionary definition of fan goggles.

Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2020 edition)

Oh! And: I would have put big money on The Who being the great losers from the classic rock canon, but it is in fact U2 who tumble from grace. A fascinating sub-narrative. As for U2 (cue sad face) I feel betrayed. I expected at least War to appear alongside The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, which w...

Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2020 edition)

A few takes on first pass: – The lack of electronic music is glaring. Nothing from Burial, Aphex Twin, Yellow Magic Orchestra, The Knife, The Prodigy, William Basinski, Boards of Canada; only two Daft Punk (and one is the Disneyfied pastiche of Random Access Memories), only one Kraftwerk album (!) –...

I should note: the upper tier for that album list (as well as the Tracks to come tomorrow) is a deliberate/de facto top 20, whereas the rest are an unranked 21-100

just to say - really proud of what we did to see the site out. Nassim - you are indeed correct. No artist was allowed more than one song per release, with a cap of three releases in total per list. so, 3 tracks were allowed split across different projects or taken from different albums and a maximum of 3 albums & EPs were allowed by any one artist. this was...

It's the classic Kinks curse on these type of polls. They printed their individual ballots, and it's clear they only asked contributors for their top ten albums. While this method has little impact on what tops the aggregate list, it can have a big impact on which albums end up populating those 50-...

I'm a bit surprised that the Flying Lotus album and the Burial EP didn't make it in, though they probably have a rule somewhere about not including EP's. Like I expected at the time, Burial has been screwed on year-end lists because Kindred is classified as an EP. With his new Truant/Rough Sleeper ...
