Re: Albums that were really great in your opinion but didn't make it in AM?

I've always been surprised that Raphael Saadiq's "The Way I See It" didn't make the top 3000.

Re: New site update in spring ... and then?

This is of course really sad news which we knew would happen one day. The amount of work that is required to maintain and update the site is simply staggering and I can't thank you enough for keeping it going for as long as you have! :D I want you to know that Acclaimedmusic has been such an invalua...

Re: AMF Favorite Albums of All-Time -- RESULTS

I'm really pleased to see Exile in Guyville on the list. A top 10 album for me and a fairly misunderstood album as far as critically acclaimed albums go. RYM don't even place it in their top 3000 which is insane... :)

Re: Songs and Albums of 2007 Poll

Kala is probably my favourite album of this century! :D It's still mindblowingly ahead of its time 10 years after its release.

Albums:
1 | M.I.A. | Kala
2 | LCD Soundsystem | Sound of Silver
3 | Burial | Untrue
4 | Arcade Fire | Neon Bible
5 | Panda Bear | Person Pitch

Re: Songs and Albums of 2006 Poll

My 5 favourite albums of 2006 - although I personally felt that it was a particularly poor year with no real standouts. Bob Dylan takes the top spot, although I preferred "Love and Theft (2001)" considerably more than "Modern Times (2006)". Ys was added simply because it was an a...

Re: What's your favo(u)rite music genre?

This is an exceptionally difficult question as I tend to dabble in all types of music. I tend to be mostly drawn to music with strong catchy melodies so things with a pop undercurrent to it - lyrics and atmosphere are second to me. I'm rather adverse to heavy rock or experimental music, and hip-hop/...

Re: Poll planner 2015

I voted for four.

I would definitely be up for the 1960's poll, and Half-Decade Poll (2010-2014). The compilation poll might be a great chance to discover new music, particularly that its not represented much here. The last vote goes to the top albums and songs by artist.

Re: Rank the Tracks: Massive Attack's Blue Lines

Just re-listened to "Be Thankful for What You've Got", it's definitely groovy and soulful and probably the catchiest song on this whole album. I'm tempted to place it higher on my list. Also as an added bonus, I went through some more Massive Attack albums, the biggest surprise for me was ...

Re: Rank the Tracks: Massive Attack's Blue Lines

I see Blue Lines in very much the same way as I see most of the so-called classics of 1991 - overrated. As said previously, Blue Lines sounds like a product of it's time, so to these ears it hasn't aged as well as Mezzanine or even Protection . I don't agree with Unfinished Sympathy 's masterpiece s...

I know that this poll has long been and gone, but If I may bring your attention to a best of 1970 list that I'm still in the process of creating. It's been a very long wait, but M.I.A.'s 'Mantangi' shows that she is still a very exciting and pioneering artist. Not a flawless album mind, but an ambitious and spitual mesh between all her previous albums. Check it out. :)

Just finished listening to the new Janelle Monae album. It's really, really good (no surprise there). I'm listening to it right now! It's been such a long wait - I'm so excited! :D Will post my initial thoughts later. EDIT: Verdict. I'm really disappointed. Devastated. I was getting a bad feeling a...

Re: Game Theory's "Lolita Nation"

:D I listened to the second-half which was slightly disappointing in comparison to the first half but I love the closing track "Like A Girl Jesus". "Erica's Word" is apparently the closest the band ever got to a "hit". "Regenisraen" just like "Where You G...

Re: Game Theory's "Lolita Nation"

I've listened to some of the 'Lolita Nation' tracks and I can't say I share the same enthusiasm. There is something I find energy-sapping about the whole production. Donnette Thayer's vocals are a bit on the thin side, Scott Miller's vocals are not technically great but do a lot more to reach me. Al...

Re: DAFT PUNK Random Access Memories

Just listened through it once and I love it. Probably the only album this year that I've thoroughly enjoyed, although I can agree with the opinion that it's a little too long. Favourite tracks for me would be "Get Lucky" and "The Game of Love".

Re: Albums of 2013

Haven't listened to James Blake's new album, although I too noticed the positive reviews, I know it might seem petty, but I've never been able to forgive James Blake for slaughtering Joni Mitchells' "A Case of You". I don't generally like his vocals - I think his voice would appeal more if...

Re: The New My Bloody Valentine Album

So I've only listened to it once but I'm afraid to say that I found it overall to be rather dull myself. The most immediate track comes in during "New You". It certainly takes a while for it to warm up when you consider that particular track is already more than half-way through the album....

I had thought/hoped Janelle Monae would release "Electric Lady" this year. She did state at the end of 2011 that she would release not one but two albums in 2012 (optimistic and ambitious, I know). So yeah, Electric Lady will probably be released in 2013 and I couldn't be more excited - th...
