Re: The "De-boomerfication" of acclaimedmusic.

Then again, I'm quite surprised that The Beatles have always so easily reigned the pantheon of pop music and still do, with so little competition, it seems. I could be biased but I think the margin between The Beatles and the rest is a bit confounding, to me at least. Why hasn't that ever changed r...

Regardless of the Radiohead snub, I'm very happy for the inclusion of Nina Simone (albeit much too late) and Dire Straits. I don't begrudge The Moody Blues either and as for Bon Jovi, at least I liked them as a teenager. From The Cars I only know Just What I Needed, so I have nothing to say about th...

There are a lot of close calls this weeks. Just look at the ranking order; it's ridiculous. 2. The Kinks - Shangri-La vs. 3. Edith Piaf - Milord Shangri-La is my nomination and my favorite Kinks song. Great melody development and wonderfully executed, scathing lyrics. The carnivalesque Milord is irr...

I will never, ever, ever understand the appeal of "Bodak Yellow". Ever. That’s refreshing to hear. I thought I was just getting old. I don't know the age factor, but I feel that critics have embraced poptimism in songs to the point of being uncritical. It seems like the thing now is find ...

and I'm surprised "Let It Go" had no EOY presence in 2013. The movie came out late November and as we know critics have started making lists by then. Also, if I remember it correctly, the song didn't become an instant hype. It took a couple of weeks, so perhaps until late December. Couple...
