Re: The "De-boomerfication" of acclaimedmusic.

The addition of new stuff is a factor, but I think it's also just the natural way of things that old works remain relevant, don't, or get reevaluated by future generations after being forgotten. For an obvious example, look at which songs were on the charts in the past and see how many are still tal...

Re: When did rock die?

The problem I always run into with "rock and roll is dead" is that nobody can agree on what exactly rock and roll is. There's some consensus on who rock and roll is, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are rock bands, I've never seen them called anything else. But then, is "D'yer Mak'er"...

Re: AMF Favorite Albums of All-Time -- RESULTS

Never mind about the vocals, "The Great Gig in the Sky" is the song they think is holding The Dark Side of the Moon back? That's like going "The White Album would be perfect if only it weren't for 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun'." I can't even be disappointed that Pet Sounds is a few p...

Re: AMF Favorite Albums of All-Time -- Prediction Thread

I was so close to posting my prediction of the top 20, but ultimately decided I didn't know anything and didn't do it... and then it turned out I had predicted the placement of Doolittle, Innervisions, and Led Zeppelin IV exactly right! So, my prediction of the top 15, which I will now surely get co...

Re: 6000 Songs: Tears for Fears - Sowing the Seeds of Love

I've heard people really hate this song, like "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", to use a relevant example. The chorus can get grating, but there are so many great moments that I can't dislike it. "I love a sunflower!" Tears for Fears has always seemed like a band that should have been niche,...

Re: AMF Favorite Albums of All-Time -- RESULTS

My theory is that Animals' fate as the "other one" of the four classic Pink Floyd albums was permanently sealed by its composition. Wish You Were Here and Animals have a similar structure where the core of the album is three songs bookended by a fourth one split in two. But what makes Anim...

Re: Who's who in Acclaimed Music Forums : the demographic thread

Hi, I've been a lurker for a bit and decided to make an account when I saw this thread pop up, and then it took me a month to get around to actually posting in it. I'm a shut-in bum with no friends from New York. I'm not sure how much there is to tell about someone who has never really done anything...
