I also forgot that both earlier versions of the song list had entries that were less than a year old (Hey Ya! on the 2004 list, Moment of Surrender on the 2010 list, and I can see one of those songs clearly sticking around and moving up and the other, if they have any sense of musical significance ...

Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2020 edition)

I also can't recall if any Vampire Weekend made the cut, which would be bizarre if they didn't given how well-received Modern Vampires of the City was. MVotC is #328. That sounds about right. I also forgot that both earlier versions of the song list had entries that were less than a year old (Hey Y...

Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2020 edition)

Some more stray observations: - I'm happy seeing some albums return that were cut the last time around, although I find it odd that Jagged Little Pill even warranted a cut at any point. - I'm just trying to imagine being a critic and putting a compilation album on my all-time list. What would it say...

Re: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2020 edition)

And honestly, I kinda delighted in seeing the lack of a ton of ‘00s white indie. Not just cuz white guys have had it *so tough* lately, but also because music criticism is just as in dire need of de-Pitchforkication as it is in need of not lionizing the classic rock canon over everything else. That ...

A look at the voters shows it skews a lot younger and a lot more toward contemporary pop, indie, R&B, and rap. I haven’t checked who voted the first time but I have a feeling there won’t be a ton of overlap.

I mean, such a list will never be perfect, but I much prefer this to the original list. I like Rolling Stone courting hot takes over paying lip service to the rock establishment. Couldn't even imagine them putting Shakira or Boyz II Men on a list like this before, but here we are.

First off, it’s Yankovic, not Yankovich. There’s a hard “c.” Secondly, this is one of his very best. An easy 9.

Also, Weird Al by itself is spelled without quotations. That’s only if you’re writing his full name, “Weird Al” Yankovic. Common mistake!
